The honest answer

How fit do I need to be?

It depends on the trip. Every Loaf expedition lists its real difficulty — not "suitable for all levels", the actual standard. Pick your trip below for a per-trip breakdown of what it asks, day by day. And expect a short call before you commit, because the honest answer to "am I fit enough" is a conversation, not a checkbox.

Good questions

How fit do I need to be to go on an athlete-led trip?

It depends on the trip. Every expedition lists its difficulty honestly, and we have a short call before you commit so we can tell you whether it's right for you now rather than on the ground. As a rule, Loaf trips are hard on purpose — but 'hard' is different for a cyclist who rides 200km a week and a runner who's done a couple of half marathons. Pick the trip, read its difficulty, and apply.

Am I too slow to join a group trip?

Probably not — but the call settles it. Group trips aren't races. The athlete sets a standard you need to meet, not a pace you need to beat. If you can meet the standard, you belong. If you can't yet, we'd rather tell you and point you at the right trip than have you suffer at 3,000 metres.

What if I'm not fit enough yet?

Apply anyway, and tell us where you're at. Trips are scheduled months ahead, and many participants use the time between deposit and departure to train to the standard. After you join the team you get a training plan and a kit list. We've watched people arrive a different athlete than they applied as.

Why is there a call before I commit?

Because the wrong person on a hard trip ruins it for everyone — themselves included. The call is how we protect the trip, for you and the team. It's also where we tell you honestly if a trip is too hard, too easy, or just right.
